WELCOME TO OUR PARENTS' CORNER
Preparing Your Child For School:

Preschool is an excellent opportunity and new experience for both you and your child. It still does not mean that it is not a scary experience for all that is involved. Below are some suggestions to help work through the fear:
-
Always speak of going to school as a pleasant, joyous experience.
-
Take time to talk with your child about the new experience he/she will encounter so that they can anticipate preschool with pleasure.
-
Prepare your child with the fact that you will leave him/her at preschool to enjoy the company of other children.
-
Know your child's teacher. Your child will be happy and secure knowing that his teacher and parents have a realtionship.

At EMLA, we want your child's experience to be that of a happy and exciting one. We do understand that there canbe a high level of udersired separation for you and your child. Help to lessen separation anziety by guarding your actions about leaving your child in tears. When your child realizes that you are not available, he/she will accept the teacher's guidance more readily. Assure your child that you will return for them, place your child in the hands of the teacher, and leave promptly.
COMMUNICATION
Proper communication between our parents and the teachers and staff is extremely important. Please tell your child's caregiver/teacher about anything special or different about your child's day, such as: an early pickup for an appointment; an approved substitute picking up your child; if your child is not eating breakfast, your child is tired from the weekend, etc. Your child's teachers should be notified about any unusual or upsetting experiences that may affect behavior, such as an illness or death in the family, a recent move, or a parent out of town. Writing this information down is also encouraged to ensure the teacher understands the situation or instructions completely.

Teachers will be sending home information on a regular basis. Infant and toddler parent/legal guardian will receive daily activity sheets that include information concerning their sleeping, feeding, etc., patterns for the day.

A conference may be requested by the caregiver, teacher, Center Director at any time to provide developmental or behavior updates to the parent/legal guardian. Parents/legal guardians are encouraged to be engaged in the development of their child. Any parent who has a specific concern is encouraged to discuss it with the child'sclassroom teacher. If it is not resolved, parents should talk with the Director or Assistant Director of the Center.
